Which Products Are Being Recalled?
Three different types of baby loungers are available from The Boppy Company:
- Boppy Original Newborn Lounger
- Boppy Preferred Newborn Lounger
- Pottery Barn Kids Newborn Lounger.
These products pose a serious risk to children who fall asleep while using them. After the 2015 death, the Boppy Company was aware of the danger, but they failed to make any changes and have caused seven more deaths.
The CPSC recall states that the pillows in the affected products may be too dense and can make breathing difficult for infants. Infants who fall asleep on the lounger can be seriously injured by the combination of the cushion’s overstuffedness and the unsanitary environment. Although the Boppy Company states that they have specific instructions for children using the product, infants can fall asleep very quickly and sporadically so it could have been safer.
